Sanctuary

The house rules, written to be read.

The venue one is the readable version of the agreement organisers sign. Where the two differ, the signed agreement wins.

For anyone taking the whole room

Venue hire

  • Full payment plus a refundable safety deposit holds your date.
  • Cancel 15+ days out for a full refund; 7–14 days out for half; under 7 days, none.
  • Up to 50 guests; no alcohol or drugs; nothing fixed to the walls.

This is the readable version of the venue agreement you sign before a booking. Where the two differ, the signed agreement wins.

What you are hiring

The studio’s main room and its furniture, arranged how you like, with the pantry corner for kettle, mugs, tea, and water. A Bluetooth speaker comes with every booking. The kitchen and the Cove restroom are not part of the hire and stay closed. Someone from the team is on site.

People

The space takes up to 50 guests at once, not counting your own team. If you are planning for more, talk to us before you book. We will say no to some things and yes to others, but we need to know.

Paying

Your date is held once the full amount is paid upfront, together with a refundable Temporary Caution Deposit for Safety (TCDS), quoted with your booking. The deposit comes back to you within 48 hours of the booking ending, provided nothing is damaged and you kept to your booked times.

Keeping to your times

Your booking has a start and an end, and both matter. Please don’t run past your end time, and don’t arrive before your start time either: there may be another event in the room before yours. Setup and wind-down count as part of your booking, so book enough of both.

Cancelling and moving

Notice given You get back
15 days or more Everything
7 to 14 days Half
Under 7 days Nothing

The deposit is returned in full on any cancellation.

You may reschedule once, to a date we both agree on, without penalty, as long as you ask at least 7 days before the original date. Inside that week the booking can no longer be moved, and the cancellation terms above apply. A second move counts as a cancellation.

Looking after the room

  • You are liable for damage to the space, furniture, equipment, and the building’s lift caused by you or your guests. Repair costs are deducted from the deposit first, and billed beyond it.
  • The floors are wood. No stilettos or cleats, lift furniture rather than dragging it, and wipe up spills straight away. Anything with paint, clay, glue, or water needs a floor cover, which we can lend you.
  • No nails, screws, adhesives, tape on painted surfaces, or fixtures of any kind.
  • No alcohol or drugs. That applies to organisers, performers, and guests.
  • Keep to the approved areas. The kitchen and the Cove restroom are off limits.
  • Leave the room as you found it.

Add-ons

Microphones, a PA speaker, extra chairs, tables, tea and snacks, a light meal, and a TV with HDMI can all be added. They are priced with the room when we quote.

You indemnify the studio against claims arising from your event, including injury to your guests and loss of their belongings. The agreement is governed by Indian law and disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the courts in Bengaluru.

For anyone playing, performing, or teaching a ticketed event

Artists and performers

  • Ticket revenue splits 60/40, artist to studio
  • Want us to promote it? The studio's share goes to 50%
  • The studio charges whichever is higher, rental or its share, paid upfront

If your event sells tickets, you can hire the room on a revenue share instead of a flat rental.

The split

Ticket revenue is shared 60% to you, 40% to the studio. If you would like the studio to run marketing for the event (Instagram posts and stories, the community WhatsApp group, and any promotions we can arrange) the studio’s share goes up by ten points to 50%.

Whichever is higher

The studio charges whichever is higher of the standard rental for your slot or its share of projected ticket revenue. The booking wizard shows both numbers side by side before you commit, and the shortfall or surplus is settled after the event against actual sales.

Everything else

A Bluetooth speaker comes with the room. Add-ons (microphones, a PA speaker, chairs, tables, food, a TV) are priced the same as for venue hire. Payment is upfront, along with the refundable safety deposit, and the venue hire policy applies in full: up to 50 guests, no alcohol or drugs, keeping to your booked times, and the cancellation and rescheduling terms.

You are responsible for any performance rights or licences your material needs.

For anyone booking a seat

Tickets

  • Instant confirmation with a ticket code
  • Pass your ticket to anyone else, any time before the event starts
  • No refunds, ever, which is why transfers are free

Confirmation

Every seat booked through the site gets a ticket code straight away. Show the code, or the name it is under, at the door.

Transfers

Can’t make it? Pass the ticket to someone else. Look it up on the tickets page, enter their name and phone number, and it is theirs. Both of you are told. You can do this any time before the event starts, as many times as needed.

Refunds

We do not refund tickets, for any reason. Small rooms mean small numbers, and one empty cushion is a real dent. Transferring is free, so please do that instead.

Memberships

A membership covers every session of that class for the period it is sold for. Memberships are personal and cannot be transferred.

If we cancel

If the studio cancels a session, everyone booked is told on the channel they booked with and moved to the next date, or refunded in full if there isn’t one.

For everyone who walks in

Guests

  • Quiet voices, open minds
  • No alcohol or drugs, no exceptions
  • Some doors stay closed, including the kitchen and the Cove restroom

Sanctuary is a small, home-like room built for people whose nervous systems need it. A few things keep it that way.

  • Come as you are, and sober. No intoxication, no alcohol, no drugs on the premises. This includes private hires.
  • Keep your voice low. Conversation is welcome. Volume is not. The walls are thin and the room is shared.
  • Be open to new ideas. Most things here are someone’s first time. Be kind about it, including to yourself.
  • Respect the closed doors. The kitchen and the Cove restroom are not for guests. Everything else is.
  • Mind the floors. They are wood. Lift chairs rather than dragging them, and tell someone if anything spills.
  • Ask about access. Step-free entry, an accessible washroom, low light on request. Tell us what you need and we will do it.
  • Photos. Ask before pointing a camera at anyone.

If something is wrong, find whoever from the team is in the room. There is always someone.

For anyone helping out or pitching in

Volunteers

  • Unpaid, but never for nothing
  • Tell us what you need to do it comfortably
  • Let us know early if you can't make it

How it works

Tell us what you are good at and what you would like to do on the volunteer page. We read every reply and come back to you, usually within a week, with something that fits, whether that is helping run an evening or trying out an idea of your own.

What you get back

Volunteering here is unpaid, but it is never for nothing. Depending on what you do, that might be free entry, food, credit for your work, or the room for a workshop of your own. People who help keep an eye on things through the day can cowork from the space for free. We agree what you get before you start, so nobody is guessing.

If a job involves travel or a long stretch and you need that covered, say so and we will sort it.

What we ask back

Turn up when you said you would. If you can’t, tell us as early as you can, on WhatsApp or by email. One missed evening is fine. Silence is what leaves a Saturday night without anyone at the door.

The house rules for guests apply to volunteers too: no intoxication, keep it low, be open to new ideas, and look after the wooden floors. The kitchen and the Cove restroom stay off limits.

Credit and your work

Anything you make here stays yours. Photographs, recordings, writing, all of it. We ask for permission to use a few pieces and we credit you when we do.

Bringing your own idea

Teach, perform, run a circle, propose a collaboration, or offer a skill we haven’t thought to ask for. Tell us about it on the volunteer page. We reply either way.

Safety

We are a disability-led space and take access seriously. Tell us what you need to do a job comfortably and we will work it out. If anything happens while you’re helping, tell the team on site straight away.
